Extending their lead in the 2024 Rugby Championship, the Springboks are primed to take another big step towards the title with a record-breaking win over the All Blacks in Cape Town.

The Springboks returned to Rugby Championship action by coming from a 10-point deficit to beat the All Blacks 31-27 at a sold-out Ellis Park.

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu kicked 16 points in his first game against New Zealand, while supersubs Grant Williams and Kwagga Smith scored a try each in the final 20 minutes of the match.

The win in Johannesburg saw the Boks extend their lead in the southern hemisphere competition, as the world champions top the table on 14 points, ahead of New Zealand (six points), Argentina (five) and Australia (four), who recorded their maiden win of the championship over the Pumas on Saturday.

Round Four of the Rugby Championship sees the Springboks and All Blacks move down to Cape Town for the second leg of their mini-series on Saturday.

A win at Cape Town Stadium could see South Africa extend their lead in the competition to double digits, depending on what happens between Lost Pumas and the Wallabies in Santa Fe.

Also up for grabs for Rassie Erasmus’ charges is a fourth win on the trot against their rivals, setting a new streak in the professional era, having equalled the three wins in a row set in 2009.
