Assistant coach Kendrick Lynn believes Tony Brown has made the Springboks more dangerous ahead of Saturday’s Rugby Championship decider against Argentina.

The Boks need only one point from the clash Mbombela Stadium or to suffer a defeat without the Argentinians claiming a bonus point to clinch their first title since 2019.

Lynn, a former New Zealand player and now part of the Los Pumas coaching setup, has worked closely with attack guru Brown in the past. He praised the Kiwi for incorporating more width and unpredictability into the Boks’ game.

“What Tony’s changed is they play with more width. You see the keenness to move the ball, especially on turnovers when they get momentum on the edge,” Lynn was quoted by News24.

The former All Blacks playmaker’s tactical influence has made the Boks harder to defend, with Lynn adding, “There’s always going to be a trick play. Last week, you saw that kick over the back with Cobus Reinach.”

However, Lynn remains confident that Argentina can challenge the Boks. With a first-ever Rugby Championship title within reach, the Pumas need a comprehensive bonus-point win to lift the trophy.

“There’s a Rugby Championship on the line. We’re happy with how we’ve been going, but we know we need to step it up again,” Lynn said.

Reflecting on head coach Felipe Contepomi’s impact, Lynn noted how the team has grown in belief and performance under his guidance. “Felipe’s been really great. We have a clear DNA and a way of playing. The boys have so much passion for the shirt and country.”

Despite the challenges ahead, Lynn is optimistic: “If we start well and get enough ball, we’ll give ourselves a chance to score tries and challenge South Africa’s defence.”
