Makazole Mapimpi is set for another spicy duel with Wallabies star Marika Koroibete after the Japan-based wing was recalled to Australia’s squad for the Rugby Championship.

The Boks will kick off this year’s edition of the Rugby Championship at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday, 10 August, before making the trip to Perth for their second clash against the Wallabies on Saturday, 17 August at the Optus Stadium.

This could provide the stage for another fiery encounter between Bok speedster Mapimpi and Wallabies superstar Koroibete, who went head-to-head in the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Koroibete famously prevented Mapimpi from scoring in the corner with what appeared to be a no-arms tackle – which went unpunished – as the Wallabies beat the Springboks 25-17 in Adelaide.

However, a week later in Sydney, Mapimpi got his revenge, as he bumped off Koroibete on his way to the tryline to seal an emphatic 24-8 victory. The incident sparked a fracas between the two teams, with Mapimpi being yellow carded for starting it and sitting out the last 10 minutes of the match.
