MARK KEOHANE makes a strong case for four uncapped South Africans who are enhancing their Test prospects with standout performances in the Vodacom URC.
Writing for TimesLIVE, Keohane highlights David Kriel of the Vodacom Bulls, who has showcased his versatility, playing centre, wing and fullback as well as excelling as a goal-kicker.
He notes that Kriel’s adaptability aligns with Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus’ preferences, making him a strong contender for national selection.
Sharks utility back Ethan Hooker, known for his power and physicality, is another standout. At just 21, Keohane believes that Hooker is a natural successor to Bok incumbent Damian de Allende at inside centre.
His strong performances have already earned him an invitation to Erasmus’ Bok alignment camps earlier this year.

Previously touted as a future Bok, JD Schickerling has returned to the DHL Stormers from Japan, and Keohane emphasised that the seasoned lock has brought quality to the Cape outfit’s lineout.
Lastly, Lions tighthead prop Asenathi Ntlabakanye has impressed Keohane with his dynamic performances.
“Two backs and two forwards are making big noises for South Africa in the United Rugby Championship – and this quartet all have the potential to be Springboks,” Keohane writes.
“The four who have impressed me the most in the first fortnight of the South African challenge come from all four South African clubs.
“Their selection is not by design, in terms of picking one from each, but by default that the rising stars have just happened to come from each of the Bulls, Lions, Sharks and Stormers respectively.”
