The Vodacom Bulls capped their European tour with a dramatic win, while the Sharks made it two from two at home heading into a four-week pause in the Vodacom URC.
On Friday, the Bulls scored a late try against Benetton to snatch a 17-15 victory in Treviso, while a flashy start by the Sharks earned John Plumtree’s charges a 41-24 win against Munster at Kings Park on Saturday.
The DHL Stormers went down 28-17 against defending champions Glasgow Warriors in Stellenbosch, before the Lions registered their first defeat of the season, a 24-6 reverse against Leinster at the Aviva Stadium in a top-of-the-table clash.
Welsh rugby enjoyed its most successful weekend in the league for more than three years amid a hat-trick of victories for Cardiff and the Scarlets and Ospreys, but Dragons ran out of puff against Connacht.
Following the round 6 action, the Bulls are third on the overall standings with 19 points – 10 behind log leaders Leinster – while the Lions dropped to fourth on 18. The Sharks’ bonus-point victory nudged the Durban outfit into ninth place with 15 points.
The DHL Stormers are in 13th position on 10 points after two victories in five matches.
When the URC resumes on the weekend of 29 and 30 November, the Bulls and Lions travel to Ireland to face Connacht and Munster, respectively, while the Sharks and Stormers battle at Kings Park in the first SA derby of the season.
