Head coach Sean Everitt says Edinburgh are keen to retain Duhan van der Merwe’s services next season, amid reports linking the Scotland winger with a move to France.

The SA-born Van der Merwe’s contract expires at the end of this campaign, with his future at the Scottish club uncertain.

RugbyPass has reported that several French clubs, including La Rochelle, are keen on signing the 29-year-old. Scotland’s record try-scorer with 28 in 41 Tests, Van der Merwe has been a key player for Edinburgh since his return two years ago.

Speaking after Saturday’s win over the DHL Stormers at Hive Stadium, Everitt emphasised the former Worcester Warriors flyer’s importance to Edinburgh.

“We want to keep Duhan in Scotland if we can. He’s got a business here in Scotland,” he told reporters. “We desperately do want to keep him here, so we’ll do the best we can.”

The coach acknowledged ongoing contract negotiations, adding, “We’re in the process of contracting for season 2025-2026 at the moment. We’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it.”
