Former Springbok coaches Jacques Nienaber and Heyneke Meyer believe “phenomenal” Pieter-Steph du Toit is currently unmatched as the best blindside flanker on the planet.
One of the standout performers throughout South Africa’s World Cup title defence at France 2023, Du Toit continues to prove his immense value in the green and gold jumper.
Du Toit, who has earned 84 caps since his debut in 2013, scored two tries in South Africa’s Rugby Championship title win over Argentina in Nelspruit on Saturday.
Nienaber coached the former World Player of the Year during his Bok tenure, and told Sunday newspaper Rapport, “Nothing tires Pieter-Steph. What he gives you in the first minute, he also gives you in the 85th minute.

“It’s extremely rare that you find a player with that characteristic. There is no better seven flanker than him for the Boks.”
Meyer, who handed Du Toit his Bok debut, described him as a “freak” talent. “Pieter-Steph has no weaknesses in his setup. He is excellent with kicks, a good ball-carrier, and strong defensively,” he said.
“For me, he is the best seven flanker in the world.”
Du Toit’s former Junior Bok coach Dawie Theron echoed the admiration: “I really only have one word for him: phenomenal. He will one day be remembered as one of South Africa’s great legends.”
