John Dobson has poured cold water on rumours of a scrumhalf merry-go-round that would see the DHL Stormers make a move for Sanele Nohamba. DYLAN JACK reports.

A Sunday newspaper report claimed that Nohamba was on Dobson’s radar, as senior scrumhalf Paul de Wet was “99% on his way to Pretoria”, with a Bulls contract expected to begin in July next year.

Addressing the talk ahead of the Stormers’ opening Vodacom URC fixtures against Ospreys in Swansea, Dobson said that while he would be open to the idea of signing Nohamba, it would have to be as a replacement for De Wet, who is set to stay in Cape Town.

“I have had no conversations. I’ve not been part of one. So that would have to go in the rumour basket,” Dobson said.

“There have been lots of rumours about Paul de Wet as well. I haven’t been part of a Paul de Wet conversation either.

“If a guy like Sanele came here and a guy like Paul did leave, we would be open to that. But how it feels in my bones now, is that Paul isn’t going anywhere.

“We have got two good SA U20 scrumhalves in Imad Khan and Asad Moos. So the only way Sanele would come in is if one of our established guys – like Herschel Jantjies and Paul – left.”
