SPOTLIGHT: Elrigh Louw will be looking to build on his impressive performance in Brisbane when the Springboks face the Wallabies in Round Two of the Rugby Championship in Perth.

After four appearances off the bench, Louw had his first Test start in last weekend’s 33-7 win over Australia at Lang Park.

With intense competition for places in the Bok No.8 position with Jasper Wiese set to return from his suspension, Louw said he understood the bigger picture and that for him it was a case of doing his best when he receives a chance to play.

“We are all aligned in terms of the team plans,” said Louw.

“Coach Rassie is trying to build squad depth and trying to get experience in all of us.

“I just want to put my hand up when I get the opportunity and play well for the team.”

He added: “I’ve got a bit of confidence after last week.

“I know what to expect now. I don’t think there is a lot more I can adjust in terms of my game.

“I’m just going to do my best and stick to the game plan and do what is best for the team and me.”

Louw was excited about linking up with scrumhalf Morne van den Berg, who will earn his first Test start this weekend, saying: “We played together a little in the Test against Portugal, but we’ve trained well together this week and that gives us confidence going into the game.”

The Bulls No.8 is also expecting the Wallabies to be a different beast in Perth.

“I think they are going to come back better,” said Louw.

“I think they are going to fix a few things and sharpen up certain areas of the game, but that is expected.

“We will be ready for that and we are also preparing the best we can so that we don’t get caught off guard by their tactics.”
